It's A Dramatic Story
Daiva Vitienė and Laimutė Dekienė (Žasliai secondary school teachers with academic education) supervise pupils after school from Monday to Friday from 11:45 to 15:45 at school.
Teachers help children with their homework. Pupil go in for sports, music, read stories, make various art works, learn computer skills, play Lithuanian folk games, clean the premises and the environment of the centre, and celebrate their birthdays.
School meals are the only hot food they receive for many supervised school children. Centre provides additional meals for children. They got hot tea, sandwiches, fruit, cookies, and sweets before going home.
At home children often find cold house, empty refrigerator (if any) and very often drunk parents. They attend children’ Day care centre willingly, but do not want go home and ask to stay there longer.
The values, positively effecting personal development and helping to adapt and orient in the society are being introduced at children’s Day care centre.
The conditions to develop in social environment together with the other children, to implement joint projects, to play together are given there.The skills in various areas are developed there. Sports activities in the gym and outdoors are one of the activities at children’ Day care centres. Children learn how to improve spiritually, how to communicate, and help to their neighbors according to their abilities while performing various jobs and tasks.
Rokiškis district Kriaunai MOPT children’s Day care centre is opened 5 days a week from 13 to 17 p.m. One full time employee and one assistant from public works program works there.
At present, 37 children attend Day care centre. The age of children varies from 6 years to the 10th grade.
The children are accepted according to the difficult financial situation of the parents.
The prevention and technology classes take part there once a week. Culinary skills are developed at the centre. Children participate in various campaigns also.
School children go in for sports at the gym, play basketball, “square”, and badminton.
The children at Day care centre prepare calendar holidays and participate there themselves. The last year a great Mardi Gras celebration was organised by the children.
The day at the centre begins from doing homework, then the meals are provided; a variety of activities, such as: sports, board games, crafts are provided. The preventive corner, computer literacy, culinary skills are developed at the centre.
Children of 5-10 years old are involved in a prevention program “Lets overcome together”.
MOPT children’ Day care centre “The Maltesers” at Kartena secondary school is opened from 13:00 up to 17:00. Children do their homework, eat dinner, they have after-school activities there.
The Maltesers conduct the following activities: chess, checkers, computer, and sports. The employment activities (environmental management, providing of various things), hiking, trips, sports competitions, and various events (festivals, meetings, evenings) are organised for the children there as well.
The centre also offers a special program for children at risk. There are many interesting extracurricular activities, as well as special sessions “How to overcome anger”.
