There are 16 Malteser Children day care centers which are daily attended by more than 400 children from socially vulnerable families. We welcome children who have learning or behavioral difficulties, who find themselves desperate to adapt to any new environment, to those who grow in a single parent family or those who experience some crisis such as divorce or similar. Children come to the centers after school. Here they can have free meals, we help them to develop better social, communication and personal hygiene skills, do their homework.
Day care centers provide assistance not only for children but also for their family members. We regularly have meetings with parents to discuss occurring psychological and social issues and to search for the solutions leading to positive change in a child’s life. According to the need, centers are also open during the summer.
To support children from socially vulnerable families, we have launched support campaign ‘Small Hearts – Big Ideas’ where we collect money to provide meals for children and help them to get ready for school. During the campaign, we invite people and companies to donate school and educational equipment, sports clothing and other accessories. After that, all the collected items are given to children from day care centers and other children Malteser volunteers take care of.
